- Star-shaped, frosted sugar cookies would be a snap to make with the kids.
- A more complicated project would be this flag-inspired tie-dye shirt.
- How about making red, white, and blue Popsicles? For red, cherries, watermelon, or strawberries would work (try those links or just blend fruit with a smidgen lemon or lime juice and simple syrup, to taste before pouring into Popsicle molds and freezing for at least 6 hours). Make another batch with blueberries and/or blackberries, and another set out of lemon or limeade. Or maybe coconut?
- If your kids like audiobooks (or the print kind), why not check out some Independence Day themed books like Ben and Me, Will you Sign Here, John Hancock?, or the book version of This Land is Your Land?
- Remember Schoolhouse Rock? How about showing the volume about American History, including the song for "Fireworks," which explains our independence from Great Britain?
- Since our family keeps the Sabbath, celebrating this July 4th will be a little more complicated than usual. We'll be skipping the wonderful parade in Pacific Palisades, and we won't be able to head to any fireworks displays, because they'll start too close to the end of Shabbat. If you don't have this problem, check out this interactive map of L.A. fireworks displays from The L.A. Times.
