My eldest wanted to go to the Martial Arts History Museum in Burbank today. It wasn't very expensive as museums go (check the website for the free day monthly, too), and the kids enjoyed it very much. The museum is very small, but they pack a lot in it. It's very well organized, and children are given a scavenger hunt for facts when they enter -- they took great interest in finding the neat factoids to fill in the blanks (Did you know the martial art indigenous to Hawaii is called Lua? Or that kung fu is Chinese, but karate is Japanese?). The museum visit took about an hour. We paired it with the Art of the Brick exhibit (strangely, in the Glendale Forest Lawn Cemetery's Museum). The later was free and kinda appealing, but held my kids' attention for all of 10 minutes. As an addendum to the earlier stop, though, it was okay.
