Usually, trolley rides are unlimited for the day (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) after paying a one dollar fare. However, when we boarded, we were informed that the trolley was free today - which was lovely. Unfortunately, we were also welcomed with news that while rides will remain free for the rest of the summer, the whole operation will most likely close Sept. 27, 2015. (We signed a petition to continue the train further, but who knows if it will succeed.)
My kids, young and old, loved the trolley ride. The trolley car is outfitted with lots of polished wood and brass fittings and is an altogether charming experience.
The kids enjoyed Crafted - which was chock full of locally-made items, as well has used books, bathrooms and refreshments. We picked up a pair of earrings and a couple used books.
The Maritime Museum also went over well. Museum admission costs a small (suggested) donation for the adults, and nothing for the kids.
The outing lasted three hours, and we wrapped it up with a ride over the Vincent Thomas Bridge, which offers a nice view of the harbor. We spent maybe fifteen bucks on everything other than the earrings and the kids were entertained for an entire afternoon. If you were so motivated, you could tack on a trip to the nearby Muller House Museum or the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, or a meal a Ports O'Call.
Anyone have an afternoon jaunt they'd like to recommend to blog readers? Please share in the comments.
